Connect IDX Broker to Claude or ChatGPT via MCP

How to connect IDX Broker to Claude or ChatGPT with the IDX Broker MCP: sign up, add the connector, connect your key, and run a first test prompt.

Two glowing plug connectors, one shaped like a chat bubble and one like a house, about to connect

This guide shows how to connect IDX Broker to Claude or ChatGPT using the IDX Broker MCP. It works with or without WordPress. The IDX Broker MCP has open self-serve sign-up: sign up first, then connect your own IDX Broker API key.

Before you start

  • An IDX Broker account, and its access key. In the IDX Broker dashboard this has typically been under Home, then Access Control. Menu names can change, so check IDX Broker's own documentation if you do not see it. The key is 22 characters of letters, numbers, _, @ and -.
  • A Virtual Results login for an organization that Virtual Results has enabled for the IDX Broker MCP.
  • The organization admin role, which is needed to connect, replace, test or remove the key.
  • Use your own IDX Broker key. A Virtual Results partner key is separate and is never something you supply.

Step 0: sign up

Use the sign-up link to create your account. You need your own IDX Broker account, because you connect your own API key later. For help, email Virtual Results support at support@virtualresults.net.

Step 1: add the connector

In Claude or ChatGPT, open the connector settings and add a custom connector. Paste this address:

https://idxbroker.virtualresultsplatform.com/mcp

This is the shared Virtual Results connection point used for connected apps, not a page for IDX alone. Menu names in Claude and ChatGPT change over time and which plans allow custom connectors varies, so treat these steps as a guide. Virtual Results walks you through it during setup.

Step 2: sign in

When prompted, sign in with your Virtual Results login. Sign-in only works once Virtual Results has granted your organization access.

Step 3: check the connection

Ask your assistant:

Is my IDX connection working?

The assistant runs the status check. Red means not connected. Yellow means connected with limits, for example no MLS approved yet. Green means ready. See troubleshooting for what each result means.

Step 4: connect your IDX Broker key

Choose one of two ways.

Paste it in chat. Tell the assistant your key and ask it to connect it. The key is format-checked, tested live against IDX Broker before anything is overwritten, and not echoed back or logged. A bad new key never replaces a working one.

Use a private link (recommended if you would rather not paste the key in chat). Ask:

Connect my IDX Broker account. I'd rather not paste the key in chat.

The assistant returns a single-use link that expires in 10 minutes and is tied to your user and organization. Opening it starts a normal sign-in, and the settings page lets you enter, test, replace or remove the key.

Step 5: run a first test prompt

Run the status check again, then try something read-only:

Who signed up on my site in the last three days?

Reads happen immediately and change nothing. Anything that changes or deletes an existing record asks you to confirm twice. See the safety guide.

Good to know

  • New features appear after you reconnect the connector or start a new chat. Existing chats keep the old tool list.
  • Slow requests: after about eight seconds the assistant is told the request is still working and checks on it rather than repeating it.
  • Hourly limit: IDX Broker allows about 300 calls per hour for your key, and roughly three times that for partner-enabled accounts.
  • Social Pro tools need IDX Broker's Social Pro add-on.
